PEOPLE, NOT POLITICS
In this year's election we have the historic opportunity to bring more people than ever before into the democratic process, but we must act to ensure that every vote counts.
In our history the politicians and even the political issues on the campaigns have not defined “America” so much as the overall freedom of our democracy and the fact that presidential candidates are held accountable to every voter in every state, in every diverse region of this country. Alexander Hamilton once said of democracy: “You must first enable the government to control the governed, and in the next place, you must oblige that the governed control the government.”
This is a historic time, when we will either allow appointed party leaders and local politicians to use political motives to disenfranchise the voters in Michigan and Florida, or we will make a non-partisan stand to enfranchise voters and refuse to allow our democracy to fall victim to those in power in the context of political campaigning. To us, this should not be about the names on the ballots, this should be about the ability to have the ballots themselves count. That is what “America” means, and we will no longer sit by as democracy is denied to our fellow Americans.
Until now, no independent, non-partisan group has yet stepped forward to represent the disenfranchised voter, and therefore it has been left to the individual candidates to debate what they would prefer to see happen. This has politicized the voting process and politicized the movement towards a resolution whereby American citizens in those states could have their votes counted.

INSPIRATION STATION
“In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility - I welcome it… the energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it -- and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.” – John F. Kennedy, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said of another time, “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” What will history record of this time, when it was our time to defend freedom in its hour of maximum danger?

WHAT’S AT STAKE
“No army is as powerful as an idea whose time has come.” -Victor Hugo
Over the past 231 years, the great American democracy has stood paramount in the world as a beacon of freedom, hope and equality. Throughout this time, over 43,000,000 American men and women have given their lives in defense of freedoms and democracy around the world. These brave American men and women shared in a belief eloquently expressed by Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
But we as Americans cannot defend justice and the value of democracy abroad while deserting it at home. A struggle between appointed party leaders and local politicians in Michigan and Florida has led to the current situation: disenfranchisement of millions of voters in Florida and Michigan in a nationwide presidential campaign.
What has been lacking from the debate is the voice of the people of Michigan and Florida. Politicians and the media have relied on all levels of speculation as to what voters in those states feel in terms of the previous primary, a proposed re-vote, and most importantly what they want to see happen.
With your help, we will give the voters of Michigan and Florida a voice by funding detailed voter research and analysis, working with leading experts (e.g. Zogby International and SurveyUSA) to conduct detailed scientific studies that report what the voters themselves want, removing from the conversation the speculation and spin that are currently being used to excuse inaction. Until now, the voices in the media have been those of party officials, candidates, and local politicians; we see this as a public service – giving a voice to the voters in those states and reminding everyone whose voice is the most important.
